Ukrainian belongs to the East Slavic sub-group of the Slavic languages, together with Belarusian and Russian. It is written in Cyrillic, but its alphabet differs from the Bulgarian one — it has the letters ґ, є, і and ї, and lacks ъ and ы. The differences look small, yet they are exactly where most mistakes occur when names and addresses in documents are translated by a non-professional.

Ukrainian language
Ukrainian is spoken by around 40 million people and is the only official language of Ukraine. Its closest relatives are Belarusian and Rusyn rather than Russian — by various estimates its lexical similarity is about 84% with Belarusian, about 70% with Polish, and stays below 65% with Russian.
The alphabet has 33 letters. The apostrophe in words such as "з’їзд" is not punctuation but part of the spelling and changes how the word is read — and it is among the most common omissions in machine translation. Ukraine is a party to the Hague Convention, so Ukrainian documents are legalised with an apostille rather than through consular procedure.
